The large tidal range in combination with large freshwater discharge into this sea could play a crucial role in maintaining the productive environment and have contributed to prevention of red-tide outbreaks and to rare incidence of hypoxia in the bottom water. However, the situation has been rapidly changing in recent years and the fisheries catch of this sea showed a remarkable decline, possibly due to various coastal development such as reclamation and dike construction in Isahaya Bay, part of the estuary head of Ariake Bay. In this paper, we discuss the development of hypoxia in the bottom water of Isahaya Bay, as a newly emerging environmental issue. Detailed analyses of the existing time-series data obtained from hourly observation in Isahaya Bay has revealed that development of density stratification, associated with wind-induced intrusion of high-density bottom water into the bay, could accelerate the hypoxia formation in the bay. Prevailing offshore wind pushes the hypoxic water further into the bay, and forces it to upwell near the dike, often leading to eventual occurrence of Aoshio (namely, upwelling of the anoxic water to the surface). This could do damage to a wider range of habitat environment in and around Isahaya Bay. Implication of recent environmental changes such as hypoxia formation for the recent decline in fisheries resources and future tasks for the environmental restoration are also discussed in detail.", "subitem_description_type": "Abstract"}]}, "item_10_description_5": {"attribute_name": "内容記述", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_description": "Nagasaki University Major Research Project: Restoration of Marine Environment and Resources in East Asia", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}]}, "item_10_description_62": {"attribute_name": "引用", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_description": "Coastal Environmental and Ecosystem Issues of the East China Sea ,pp.1-12; 2010", "subitem_description_type": "Other"}]}, "item_10_publisher_32": {"attribute_name": "出版者", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_publisher": "TERRAPUB"}]}, "item_10_relation_8": {"attribute_name": "ISBN", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_relation_type_id": {"subitem_relation_type_id_text": "9784887041516", "subitem_relation_type_select": "ISBN"}}]}, "item_10_relation_9": {"attribute_name": "書誌レコードID", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_relation_type_id": {"subitem_relation_type_id_text": "BB01538341", "subitem_relation_type_select": "NCID"}}]}, "item_10_rights_12": {"attribute_name": "権利", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_rights": "© by TERRAPUB and Nagasaki University, 2010."}]}, "item_10_version_type_15": {"attribute_name": "著者版フラグ", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_version_resource": "http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85", "subitem_version_type": "VoR"}]}, "item_creator": {"attribute_name": "著者", "attribute_type": "creator", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "Nakata, Hideaki"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "57788", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}]}, {"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "Mishina, Hirofumi"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "57789", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}]}, {"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "Takahashi, Tetsuya"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "57790", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}]}, {"creatorNames": [{"creatorName": "Hirano, Keiji"}], "nameIdentifiers": [{"nameIdentifier": "57791", "nameIdentifierScheme": "WEKO"}]}]}, "item_files": {"attribute_name": "ファイル情報", "attribute_type": "file", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"accessrole": "open_date", "date": [{"dateType": "Available", "dateValue": "2020-12-23"}], "displaytype": "detail", "download_preview_message": "", "file_order": 0, "filename": "nu2010001.pdf", "filesize": [{"value": "1.2 MB"}], "format": "application/pdf", "future_date_message": "", "is_thumbnail": false, "licensetype": "license_free", "mimetype": "application/pdf", "size": 1200000.0, "url": {"label": "nu2010001.pdf", "url": "https://nagasaki-u.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/15582/files/nu2010001.pdf"}, "version_id": "487e1452-7ee9-4ff6-bfe5-8abb289a3c07"}]}, "item_keyword": {"attribute_name": "キーワード", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_subject": "Ariake Bay", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "Isahaya Bay", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "hypoxia", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "wind-induced current", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "environmental", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "restoration", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}, {"subitem_subject": "fisheries resources", "subitem_subject_scheme": "Other"}]}, "item_language": {"attribute_name": "言語", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_language": "eng"}]}, "item_resource_type": {"attribute_name": "資源タイプ", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"resourcetype": "research report", "resourceuri": "http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_18ws"}]}, "item_title": "A newly emerging environmental issue: Development of hypoxia in the bottom water of Ariake Bay", "item_titles": {"attribute_name": "タイトル", "attribute_value_mlt": [{"subitem_title": "A newly emerging environmental issue: Development of hypoxia in the bottom water of Ariake Bay"}]}, "item_type_id": "10", "owner": "2", "path": ["1254"], "permalink_uri": "http://hdl.handle.net/10069/23497", "pubdate": {"attribute_name": "公開日", "attribute_value": "2010-08-11"}, "publish_date": "2010-08-11", "publish_status": "0", "recid": "15582", "relation": {}, "relation_version_is_last": true, "title": ["A newly emerging environmental issue: Development of hypoxia in the bottom water of Ariake Bay"], "weko_shared_id": -1}

内容記述 | Ariake Bay is one of the most important shallow seas for fisheries in the western Japan. The large tidal range in combination with large freshwater discharge into this sea could play a crucial role in maintaining the productive environment and have contributed to prevention of red-tide outbreaks and to rare incidence of hypoxia in the bottom water. However, the situation has been rapidly changing in recent years and the fisheries catch of this sea showed a remarkable decline, possibly due to various coastal development such as reclamation and dike construction in Isahaya Bay, part of the estuary head of Ariake Bay. In this paper, we discuss the development of hypoxia in the bottom water of Isahaya Bay, as a newly emerging environmental issue. Detailed analyses of the existing time-series data obtained from hourly observation in Isahaya Bay has revealed that development of density stratification, associated with wind-induced intrusion of high-density bottom water into the bay, could accelerate the hypoxia formation in the bay. Prevailing offshore wind pushes the hypoxic water further into the bay, and forces it to upwell near the dike, often leading to eventual occurrence of Aoshio (namely, upwelling of the anoxic water to the surface). This could do damage to a wider range of habitat environment in and around Isahaya Bay. Implication of recent environmental changes such as hypoxia formation for the recent decline in fisheries resources and future tasks for the environmental restoration are also discussed in detail. | |||||
