抄録
In Nagasaki University a First-Year Seminar was established as a required course for all students from 2002 to 2010. The seminar, part of a new paradigm for undergraduate education at the university, possesses the following characteristics: Every class consists of small size of around 10 first-year students with a mix of different majors. The research theme of the class is not given by the teacher but proposed by the class students themselves. In this study, the author summarizes the results from survey on the educational effects of first-year seminar in relation to a new paradigm, and reports the evaluation analysis of attainment of program aim by students. The findings of the study, demonstrated by the yearly improvement of evaluation over the time-frame of the study, suggest that new paradigm in the seminar offers potential advantages for further studies and learning in major when promoted to upper class. The seminar reached new aspect in 2011.
