The loading rate Kr ranged from 1.0 to 3.8×104 kPa･ml/2/s. The notch of the specimens was made by pressing the edge of a razor blade on the bottom of the saw cut slot. Three types of single crystal ice specimens were made, in which C-axis of the crystal placed at an angle θ equaled 0°, 45° or 90° with the notch plane respectively. Experimental results show that the effects of Kr on the fracture toughness is very little in the range Kr>30 kPa . m1/2/s. The results of the study of the experimental data in the range KI> 30 kPa･m1/2/s are summarized as follows; (1) KIf values of θ=0o and θ=90° specimens are nearly equal, and they are higher than that of θ=45° specimens.
