Fugen in the Unzen mountains finally came to a halt after five years of activity. Several permanent reconstruction plans and promotion plans were implemented by the local governments, and various countermeasures against future disasters are under construction. This paper first describes the present status of reconstruction projects, and then looks at the response given by citizens to these permanent reconstruction plans for the Shimabara district through a questionnaire survey.
