We show the French text and Japanese one\nside by side. The marechaussee, a mounted police, served both as a royal army, keeping order particulary in the countryside and on highways, and as a royal court (prevot’s court). In March 1720, the royal government tried to reform the marechaussee. The second reform began in 1760. The Ordinance enhanced the royal ordinance of 16th March 1720 and stipulated concretely the functions of the mounted police fort the first time as a law concerning the marechaussee.
