The paper argues that despite significant progresses have observed in terms of reduction in infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate in recent 20 years, further improvements are pivotal for achieving the goals of SDGs. Evidence-based approaches that have demonstrated significant effects on safe motherhood are important to further reduce preventable deaths in mothers, newborn babies and stillbirths.
