In the United Kingdom, the spas around Bath reached their heyday in the 18th century. As seen in Jane Austen's novels, the people went to Bath for social contact rather than sickness recuperation. In the 19th century, the spas located in the heart of the mountains were regarded as the place of the lovers by the movement of Romanticism in France. However, as the purpose of the stay in the spas became the socializing life, the low sort of visitors increased, and the incidence of deception and betrayal increased.
