The instrument is portable in size, and is consisted of a probe (for radiation of infrared ray and reception of interactance spectra), a main system box (circuit, computer, key boad and display) and a band for shade. Near infrared interactance spectra are measured on the anterior biceps by using a probe with a band for shade, then the values of %Fat computed from the spectral data is indicated on the display. The reproducibility of the values by BFT2000 was assessed by CV obtained from 10 replicated measurements ; the results were satisfactory for practical applications. A space between the probe and the skin made the values for %Fat higher. The values were also affected when the position of the probe was shifted from a middle line of the biceps, and were lowered by covering with cloths on the skin surface to place a probe.
