The subjects consisted of 35 patients with head and neck cancer who visited the otolaryngological department of a university hospital and their 19 family members (total, 54 subjects). After medical consultations with physicians, we asked to the patients and their family members, \"Are you all right?\" While observing their facial expression and actions. Thereafter, the patients and their family members from whom consent was obtained were interviewed. An inductive analysis was performed, after recording the contents of the interviews and verbal expressions. During each period, physical and psychological/social problems, observed in the behavior of the patientsand their family members and the contents of their consultation, were analyze using the \"14 constituent Factors of basic nursing\" proposed by V. Henderson. Interviews revealed various physical and psychological/social problems of outpatients with head and neck cancer and their family members. In particular, in the terminal stage, many psychological problems were observed in both the patients and family members, and the control of symptoms was also an important problem.
