| 内容記述 | Significant progress has been made in the study of Tan Kah Kee, with most findings rooted in Chinese historical sources. However, Japanese perspectives on Tan Kah Kee have been largely overlooked. Additionally, research focused solely on Tan Kah Kee as an individual appears to have reached a plateau. To move forward, it is essential to move beyond a biographical approach and instead situate his experiences within broader socio-economic, historical, and cultural contexts. This approach allows for a more comprehensive exploration of the larger narratives in which his life and actions are embedded. In this context, this paper undertakes a digital analysis and genealogical review of Japanese historical materials related to Tan Kah Kee. This study not only highlights Japanese discourse as one of the most substantial collections of historical sources on Tan Kah Kee outside of Chinese materials but also uses his story as a lens to vividly trace the evolution of Japan’s relations with the Chinese diaspora, Southeast Asia, and China during the period in question. | |||||||
