Two types of color pattern of the pedal sole the abalone, Nordotis discus were observed in the catch at Kamitsushima Fisheries Cooperative Association, Nagasaki Prefecture. One type was dark blue, which is normally reported. The other type was light brown which is the same as those of other species, N. gigantea and N. madaka. The frequency of occurrence of light brown pedal soles was about 1.4% in the catch. Shell height of this type was higher than that of the dark blue type. This suggests that hybrids between N. discus and N. gigantea or N. madaka may have occurred in nature. |
