| 内容記述 | The panther puffer, growing to over 30 cm TL in adult, is distributed in the coastal waters of Japan, the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea. The spawning of the puffer was found at a small sandy beach of Shirahama in Ōmura Bay during 15 to 18, May 1984. The spawning schools consisted of less than one hundred spawners, ranging from 90 to 180 mm BL, the majority of which were found to be males. The spawning took place at flood tides both in night and daytime of the spring tide. An actual process of egg laying took about 5 seconds, and it was repeated for about one hour. The eggs were spawned scatteredly on the spawning bed and the bottom sand grains adhered to the egg to cover the whole surface of the chorion. Another puffer, Takifugu niphobles gathered in the spawning bed to eat the eggs of the panther puffen. The spawning habit in the present research place is compared with the habits reported from Futae of the Amakusa Islands and the Miura Penisula of Kanagawa Prefecture, and local varieties of the habit among the three places are described. | |||||||||
