Observations were made on seasonal changes in the number of Culex pipiens molestus egg-rafts collected in ovitraps set on the ground at the campus of Nagasaki University School of Medicine. About 50 egg-rafts were collected in the middle part of each month from April to October or November in 1977, 1981 and 1986. Each egg-raft was reared to adult mosquitoes. When an egg-raft produced autogenous females, the original egg-raft was identified as that of Cx. p. molestus. The patterns of seasonal changes in oviposition activity in 1977, 1981 and 1986 were similar, that is, the activity was high in spring to early summer and in autumn, but low in late summer. Also, a few egg-rafts with 150 or more eggs were collected, and assumed to be those deposited by the fed females. |
