Therefore, the steep front surge voltage has been taken into consideration, and the necessity of examining the discharge characteristics under the steep front impulse voltage came for protection of apparatus used overhead distribution lines. Moreover, in overhead distribution lines, outages due to contact with bird nests have become one of the serious problems in the recent years. Dielectric strength of the distribution line which bird nests exist is considered to be quite low compared with the distribution line which bird nests does not exist.
