The methods and administrative procedures of such entry, and the nature of the curriculum for continuing students, vary from university to university. One of the authors of this article was a third-year entrant to the Department of Nursing at University B, and had a strong sense of some of the obstacles involved in such study. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to highlight and discuss the obstacles to study experienced by continuing students. The subjects of the study were 3^<rd>-year entrants to the Department of Nursing at University B. An interview with the students was carried out, transcribed and analyzed. From the analysis we abstracted six categories of obstacles : 1) insufficient administrative support ; 2) financial burden on the students of procuring uniforms for practicums ; 3) dissatisfaction with the nature of the curriculum ; 4) obstacles with the content of classes and the method of choosing classes ; 5) obstacles with the timing and supervision of practicums ; 6) Time loss : by the excessive amount of time spent as an undergraduate. These major categories comprised nineteen separate subcategories. This research highlights the importance of guidance and orientation for continuing students, the risks to study motivation, and the diversity of study needs.
