Current Hardware Description Languages (HDL) including SFL are procedural languages like Pascal or C, and hardware components cannot be custamized when reused. We are studying an object-oriented extension to HDL to promote hardware component reuse. This paper describes the research direction and basic concepts of object-oriented HDL (OO-HDL), investigates inheritance anomaly in hardware component inheritance, and proposes a solution.
