Modern technology has developed in an effort to achieve the efficiency (Reduction of time and costs) of production. The Night-soil Treatment, one of the technologies of environmental conservation, has also developed with an aim to speed up processing and miniaturizing the capacity of the reactive layer. As a result, the processing power has improved but the construction and maintenance costs of the facilities have grown, and the energy consumption for processing has increased substantially. Given these factors, I have conducted a survey concerning 12 night-soil treatment facilities in Nagasaki Prefecture and the organic liquid manure production facilities of Shiida-Machi, Fukuoka Prefecture, and evaluated the night-soil treatment from such environmental perspectives as environmental burden, energy costs and material recycling. As a result, it became evident that a technology that was deemed old fashion affords low maintenance costs and minimal environmental burden. |
