There is a momentum in local communities to utilize abandoned schools as "resources," replacing them as "negative assets" that continue to increase as the birthrate declines and the population ages. We examined the utilization of closed schools in the shrinking society of the future, using the case of Minami-Shimabara City in Nagasaki Prefecture, and the concrete possibilities of such efforts. From the research, two important requirements for the utilization of closed schools were identified. The first is that there is a possibility of a "reinterpreting" process in the "utilization of closed schools" initiative that would create a "self-running force" in the community. Secondly, based on Hannah Arendt's concept of the "common world", it’s clear that there is a "dynamic social process" that attempts to give social meaning to the "static" state of abandoned schools. We conclude that the complementarity of these two processes is essential for sustainability., 長崎大学総合環境研究, 24(1), pp.1-12; 2021}, pages = {1--12}, title = {人口縮小社会における「負の資産」を読みなおす試み ―南島原市の廃校利活用事例を通じて―}, volume = {24}, year = {2021} }
