This article aims to clarify the usage frequencies of verb complements, focusing on the verb recommend. Regarding complement selection, the following three complement types are possible: recommend+V-ing, recommend+that-clauses and recommend+NP+to-infinitives. Through the analysis of the complement types that follow the verb, it was found out that the most frequently used syntactic sequence is V-ing, and that the least frequently used sequence used by native speakers of English is NP+to-infinitive. This sequence is frequently used by Japanese learners of English, according to our learner’s corpus research. Based on the results of our corpus research, this study suggests that the effectiveness on Data- Driven Learning (DDL) and pattern practices be important and necessary so that Japanese learners of English can internalize the information about complement selection., 多文化社会研究, 4, pp.363-384; 2018}, pages = {363--384}, title = {コーパスを用いた母語話者による動詞の使用実態の考察と教育的示唆―動詞recommend を例として―}, volume = {4}, year = {2018} }
