In our previous study (Kumagami & Okuda 2022), we investigated whether explicit grammar instruction affects JLEs’ (Japanese learners of English) use of intransitive and transitive verbs. Our study showed a significant increase of test scores after the instruction was given. However, in order to demonstrate the effectiveness of this instruction, it is necessary to verify whether this effect persist over time through follow-up studies. Thus, the present study investigates the long-term effect of explicit grammar instruction. We conducted 2 delayed tests, using the same method as was applied in the previous study. Our research shows, a long-term effect even after the second delayed test (31 weeks after the instruction).
