Previous studies on the effects of\naromatic foot baths have mainly focused on changes in vital signs and subjective sensations, and few\nhave investigated on the effects using objective scales other than changes in vital signs. In this respect,\nthis study aimed to measure the effects on relaxation of warm foot baths with and without use of sweet\norange essential oil using objective and subjective scales. Subjects were 19 healthy female first to forthyear\nnursing students (aged between 18-22). Changes in pulse, blood pressure and salivary amylase\nactivity before and after foot bath were measured as objective effects, and Profile of Mood States (POMS)\nand Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to measure the subjective effects on relaxation. Results\nshowed that POMS and VAS improved significantly after usage of foot bath. However, use or non-use of\nsweet orange essential oil showed no significant difference in all objective and subjective scales.
