The questionnaire was distributed through the resident's association and returned by mail.\n　The t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis were conducted for the data analysis.\nResults: The findings suggested that the strongest predictor of life satisfaction was the degree of mental independence（ β=－0.295, p<0.001）. The more mentally independent the patient was, the higher the life satisfaction score. This was followed by the degree of social isolation（ β=－0.217, p<0.05）, which\nindicated that the lower the degree of social isolation, the better the life satisfaction score, and physical pain（ β=－0.190, p<0.05）, which indicated that the lesser the respondent experienced physical pain, the\nbetter the life satisfaction score. The degree of relationship with the local community was not identified to be a significant predictor in this model.\nConclusion: In this study, the life satisfaction of the respondents was predicted not only by healthrelated factors, but also by the degree of social isolation. According to the negative association between the degree of relationship with the local community and social isolation, we speculate that social isolation may be improved by obtaining more friends with whom an elderly individual can personally contact within the community.
