Pinatubo occurred on June 1991 were studied by the use of the pyrheliometric data of Japan Meteorological Agency. The turbidity coefficient (β) defined by Yamamoto et al. (1968) was evaluated for 14 stations and for 3 years from 1990 to 1992. In addition to the monthly mean value of β, the low mode value of β which is defined as the moderate value between the minimum and the median, and the high mode vaule as the moderate value between the maximum and the median were taken into account for estimating the monthly anomalies of atmospheeric turbidity. The results can be sammarized as follows. (1) The most severe influence of the stratospheric volcanic dust appeared in spring 1992 at almost all stations in Japan. (2) The extremes of the monthly anomalies were as high as the level of ⊿β=0.12～0.15, which are significantly greater than those estimated at the E1Chichon event during the years 1982-1983(⊿β=0.08～0.11).
