We attempted to examine the regional singularities of heavy rainfall in Kyushu in the bai-u period (June and July) by the use of the rain-guage records at the stations of Japan Meteorological Agency. We have compiled the ranking of heavy rain from the first place to 50 th one in Kyushu in three time intervals; 10-minute, 1-hour and daily precipitations. The heavy rains greater than 86.5 millimeters per hour were counted 42 cases in Japan in this period. Twenty-one percent of them has occurred in West Kyushu which has only 5 percent of the stations. Moreover, seventeen percent has taken place in North Kyushu. Therfore, It can be stated that West and North Kyushu have a great probability of heavy rain compared with the average occurrence in Japan. This fact should be sufficiently taken into account in the actual enforcement of rain-disaster prevention., 長崎大学教育学部自然科学研究報告. vol.36, p.17-24; 19}, pages = {17--24}, title = {九州地方における梅雨期豪雨の地域特性}, volume = {36}, year = {1985} }
