The respondents were 105 sixth-year elementary school students, 157 second-year junior high school students, and 133 first-year high school students. They answered the Interpersonal Stress-Coping Inventory (consisting of positive relationship-oriented coping, negative relationship-oriented coping, and postponed-solution coping), a measure of depression for mental health, and a measurement of emotional empathy for individual difference. Positive relationship-oriented coping was significantly and negatively related to depression among elementary and junior high school students with high levels of emotional empathy.
