The VD-Wall is a wall-shaped powerful passive energy dissipator consisting of a pair of vertical steel plates filled with high ciscous fluid. This part reports the results of performance testss using full scale VD-Wallsconducted to grasp the damping characteristics of VD-Walls. The following facts were revealed; l)The viscous resistant force Qw generated in the VD-Wall can be represented by the sum of damping force Qd and restoring force Qk( Qw=Qd+Qk). The former Qd is proportional to the velocity gradient (dV/dy) raised to the α power,the latter Qk to the relative displacement(δ) raised to the (1+β)power. 2)The value of exponent α is substantially constant regardless of the viscosity of fluid. And the value of β is also constant regardless of the viscosity. 3)The damping capability of the VD-Wall during out-plane deformation is virtually the same as one when it is not deformed., 構造工学論文集, 35B, pp.29-42; 1989}, pages = {29--42}, title = {建築構造物の応答制御設計法に関する研究 ―その1 制震壁の粘性減衰特性に関する調査研究―}, volume = {35B}, year = {1989} }
