We collected 29 species belonging to 17 families of Coelenterata and seven species of seven families from Ctenophora. The annual dominant among coelenterates was Liriope tetraphylla, while that among ctenophores was Bolinopsis mikado. Both young and mature individuals of Liriope tetraphylla occurred throughout the study period. They tended to grow to a larger size in winter than in summer. Charybdea rastonii, which occurred in summer and autumn, were separated into two distinct size groups after late summer. Charybdea rastonii were distributed almost exclusively within 10 or 20 m of shore, while dense patches of ctenophores were often observed around the plankton net stations as well as close to the beach line. Abundances of siphonophores in the nearshore waters seemed to be correlated with fluctuations in the strength of the open sea water.
