The objective of this study is to put some suggestions for revitalizing the central city area of local cities in Japan by considering and comparing the examples of western countries. In doing so, we have conducted literature survey to know the present state of local city redevelopment in and outside Japan. Then, we have conducted questionnaire survey to the shop owners of local city Nagasaki as a representative case, to know their problems and future prospects. Finally, on the basis of the literature survey and assessment of the present conditions prevailing in Japan, some recommendations are provided to make local city redevelopment in Japan more effective. |
